UrbanVolt hits one million lightbulb energy saving target

21 May 2018

UrbanVolt, in partnership with its clients, has delivered energy savings equivalent to the permanent switch-off of 1 million light bulbs.

The energy services specialist company was one of the first firms worldwide to sign up to the UN’s Global Lighting Challenge which is committed to reducing harmful CO2 emissions.

While the aim of the Challenge is to replace 10 billion lightbulbs around the world, UrbanVolt confirmed it reached its one million target last month. And it is committed to doubling this number within the next 12 months.

In less than two years the company has saved its Irish clients over €40 million in cash savings or 44,616 Megawatt hours of power, the same as taking 3,585 homes off the grid. The reduction in harmful emissions equates to not burning 35,660,342 kilos of coal, or removing 7,110 cars from the road.

UrbanVolt, which offers Light as a Service to businesses, upgrades commercial premises to LED lighting for no capital cost, enabling Irish companies to save money while also doing delivering measurable environmental improvements. UrbanVolt is paid a fixed proportion of the savings generated during a five-year partnership, during which UrbanVolt also maintains the lights.

Edel Kennedy, Head of Marketing with UrbanVolt, said the Global Lighting Challenge has helped to change behaviour and driving a permanent reduction in energy consumption.

“All companies, whether big or small, want to contribute to positive change. We make it easy for them to do that.  By undertaking an LED upgrade and participating in the Global Lighting Challenge, companies are playing their part and making a real difference in reducing emissions and protecting the environment.

“Our clients, whether they are a Fortune 50 pharma company or a family run hardware store, are future proofing their business and the environment by taking steps to permanently reduce energy consumption.”

“At UrbanVolt we are committed to continuing to deliver significant energy and cash savings to our clients.”
